Ukraine has deployed F-16 fighter jets provided by Western allies to prevent Russian airstrikes on the battlefield. The President of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Tuesday that these warplanes were used to destroy the Russian drones and missiles used in the recent attacks.

Earlier this month, President Zelensky announced that Kiev had received the first shipment of F-16 fighter jets promised by Western allies. However, he refused to disclose how many F-16s have been received.

At a press conference in Kiev yesterday, Zelensky said, "We have already destroyed several Russian drones and missiles using F-16 fighter jets." He also said that Ukraine needs more fighter jets.

Zelensky told AFP last May that his country needed at least 120 warplanes to achieve "parity" in a war against Russia.

Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, the F-16 is manufactured by Lockheed Martin, a US arms manufacturer. This warplane has been well tested in the global battlefield. It has a 20 mm cannon. Apart from this, the warplane can carry bombs, rockets and missiles.
