Tehran threatened to retaliate again after the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria. The country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Israel must be punished.
Khamenei made this threat in a speech today on the occasion of the end of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. He said, by attacking the consulate, Israel attacked the territory of Iran. They made a mistake. They must be punished for this.
On April 1, Israel launched an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria. Several top officials including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) of Iran's armed forces, were killed in the attack.
Meanwhile, after Khamenei's threat, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote on his X handle, "If Iran attacks (Israel) from its territory, Israel will respond and attack Iran."
On October 7 last year, Hamas, the ruling group of Palestine, attacked Israel. Since that day, Israeli forces have continued to attack the valley indiscriminately. The Middle East region has become heated due to this conflict. Various pro-Iranian armed groups have become active in supporting the Palestinians.
Since the start of the conflict in Gaza, there have been regular counter-attacks between the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah and Israel. Pro-Iranian groups based in Iraq have launched attacks on US military forces in Syria and Iraq. Yemen's armed Houthi rebels have targeted cargo ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
