X restriction for 24 hours in Pakistan

In Pakistan, restrictions on the use of social media X have been reported after protests spread over allegations of election fraud.

Social media X (formerly Twitter) was banned in Pakistan on Sunday. Internet monitoring organization NetBlocks said this.

The agency said this is the latest and longest-running instance of government authorities imposing restrictions on a social media platform across Pakistan. Such an initiative may be taken mainly because of the spread of fraud reports regarding the February 8 elections.

Earlier last Saturday, NetBlocks reported that the use of X in various areas of Pakistan is facing obstacles. This happened after protests spread over allegations of electoral fraud.

Osama Khilji, director of Bolo V, a consulting firm working on digital rights, said on Monday morning, "Only through VPN users were able to access the X account."

Usama Khilji also said that many users have also complained of slow internet speed and blocked VPN usage. However, neither the Telecom Authority nor the Information Technology Ministry has said anything about this.
