Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Coachella on Saturday. An armed person has been arrested from the gathering place
A man has been arrested with a weapon near a campaign rally for Republican candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential election. The incident took place in the Coachella area of California.
The man illegally brought a shotgun and ammunition to a Trump campaign rally on Saturday. However, there was no danger to Trump and anyone who participated in the election rally.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Office reported that he was arrested on Sunday local time.
The Secret Service said it was aware of the man's arrest.
The FBI and the US Attorney's Office said in a joint statement that the investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff's office said the man was identified as Vem Miller. He is a resident of Las Vegas. He is 49 years old. He was released on bail after his arrest. He will face a court hearing on January 2.
Miller was detained near a checkpoint at a Trump campaign rally. He came in a black colored SUV.
Earlier, the first shooting occurred at Trump's campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The bullet hits Trump's ear. A second attack on Trump was then attempted in Florida.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco is a Trump supporter. He spoke at Trump's campaign rally in Coachella. There, he said, none of them knew what the gunman's intentions were.
Later in the press conference, Bianco said that if the reporters asked him, he would say right now that the third assassination attempt on Trump had been prevented.
Bianco also said that several passports and identity cards of the armed man were found. His car had these passports and identity cards in different names. None of these are registered. He also said that federal authorities will bring more charges against him.
Trump's campaign had no immediate comment.
Many political analysts were surprised by Trump's decision to rally in California. This is because the number of Democrat supporters in this state is high. However, Trump's campaign rallies drew huge crowds.
Coachella is well known for its annual music festival.
