The Democratic Republic of Congo received the first shipment of the Mpox vaccine

Monkeypox was first identified in the African country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The African country Democratic Republic of Congo has received the first shipment of monkeypox vaccine. The country's health authorities hope that these vaccines will help prevent outbreaks of pox in the country.

Mpox has spread to several countries in different regions of the world. This infection was first detected in the African country of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency around the world due to the outbreak of Mpox.

According to WHO data, since January 2023, 27,000 people have been diagnosed with Mpox in the country. More than 1 thousand 100 people died. Majority of the infected and dead are children.

A plane carrying the first shipment of Mpox vaccine landed in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Thursday afternoon local time. The European Union has given these vaccines as a grant to the country.

The country's health minister, Samuel Roger Kamba Mulamba, said that the provinces with the highest number of patients will be vaccinated first. He said that this vaccine is approved in Europe and the United States. But it can only be given to adults.

At the moment, there are cases of infection of several types of Mpox virus. One of these types is more dangerous. The type named 'Clade 1B' was identified in September last year.

The Mpox virus is transmitted to others through close contact with a person infected with Mpox. Such exposure includes physical contact, skin contact, close talking or breathing. The symptoms of a person infected with this virus are similar to the flu. At one stage of the disease, a rash appears on the body and can become fatal.
