At least 43 people have died as a result of Hurricane Helen, one of the strongest in the history of the country, which hit the southeastern part of the United States. Millions of people on the southeastern coast of the country were without power yesterday Friday.
This category 4 hurricane made a big splash in Florida last Thursday night and entered the territory of Georgia and North Carolina.
Insurance and financial institutions said that Helen's storm could cause billions of dollars in damages. Houses and roads were destroyed. One family told the BBC that they had to swim out of their house to find safe shelter after their house was washed away.
According to the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Helen became a hurricane within six hours.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Helen's impact caused tidal surges of more than 15 feet along the Florida coast. More than 50 cm of rain may fall in those places.
Hurricane Helen is bringing strong winds and heavy rain to large areas of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and North and South Carolina.
At least five people died in Pinellas County, Florida. County Sheriff Bob Gueltieri reported this information. On the other hand, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that one person died when a road sign fell on a car and another person died when a tree fell on a house.
