36 flights canceled, 201 delays while searching for scissors

A pair of scissors goes missing from a shop near the boarding gate of one of Japan's busiest airports. 36 flights were canceled while searching for the pair of scissors. Another 201 flights were delayed.

The incident happened last Saturday at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan. Passengers are subjected to multiple security searches for scissors.

Passengers who have been screened by security once again get crowded and have long queues. Due to which the security check was stopped at the domestic terminal of the airport for almost two hours on Saturday morning. Thousands of passengers were stranded at that time.

Authorities desperately try to find the scissors for safety's sake. The next day, the two scissors were found inside the store where they were lost.

On Monday, the airport authorities said that a pair of scissors was found. An employee of the store where it was lost found the pair of scissors inside the store. The airport authorities announced this after it was confirmed that both the scissors were lost.

In Japan, the 13th to 16th of this month was the annual 'Bon Holiday'. As a result, there was heavy passenger pressure at airports in Japan last Saturday.

The Hokkaido Airport Authority said, 'We accept that this incident occurred due to negligence on the part of the store's management. We were afraid that this incident might be connected with hijacking or terrorism.

Airport authorities have been widely praised on social media for their swift action to find the scissors after they went missing. Many said the incident reaffirmed their confidence in the safety of air travel in Japan.

New Chitose Airport is one of the busiest airports in Japan. It is the second largest airport in the world by domestic passengers. In 2022, more than one and a half million people traveled through this airport.
