Taken from Missions in Haiti
A US missionary couple has been killed in gang violence in Haiti. A young man from Haiti was also killed in the attack. The victims are Natalie Lloyd (21) and her husband David (23) and Jude Montis, a 20-year-old Haitian. The incident took place in Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince on Thursday night.
Natalie's father, Missouri US Senator Ben Baker, confirmed her death on Facebook. He wrote, 'They were killed in a gang attack this evening. The two have gone to heaven together.'
Natalie and David got married in 2022. Their organization, Missions in Haiti, confirmed to US media that Montis was the third victim of the attack.
In an earlier Facebook post, the agency said two separate armed groups attacked them. First the gunmen came in three cars and attacked them.
Then another group came. At this time, the missionary members were trapped inside a building. The gang members then entered the building and attacked.
The Facebook post also said, 'They hide there. But the gang members shot through all the windows of the house. They kept firing.'
A US State Department spokesperson told BBC affiliate CBS News they were aware of the incident.
Ex-Twitter, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wrote, "We offer our sincere condolences to their families for this loss. We are ready to provide all kinds of assistance.”
Meanwhile, the White House called for the rapid deployment of Kenya-led multinational forces to stabilize the situation in Haiti.
