US issues travel warning for US workers in Israel

The US embassy said the workers were advised not to travel outside of greater Jerusalem

The US has issued a travel ban for US personnel stationed in Israel amid fears of Iranian retaliatory strikes. Such a decision has been taken amid fears of an Iranian attack on Israel.

The US embassy said the workers were advised not to travel outside of greater Jerusalem. However, Tel Aviv and Bir Sheva areas will remain exempt from this warning.

On April 1, Israel launched an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria. Thirteen people were killed, including some officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran's armed forces. Israel is believed to be responsible for the attack.

However, Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack. Iran has warned that it will respond to the attack.

The attack comes amid diplomatic efforts to ensure that the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip does not spread regionally.

Last Wednesday, US President Joe Biden pledged support to Israel.

US Middle East Operations Commander Eric Kurila has visited Israel to talk with officials about security threats. The Pentagon said it was a pre-scheduled visit. However, due to the recent situation, its date has been brought forward.

An Iranian official said on Sunday that Israeli embassies are no longer safe. He indicated that one of the consulate buildings will be targeted for attack.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav told the US Defense Minister that Iran may launch a direct attack on Israeli territory.

Speaking about the travel warning on Thursday, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said he would not elaborate on the reason for the travel ban. However, he said, "Of course, we are keeping an eye on the threat that Israel is facing in the Middle East."

The British Foreign Office has also changed travel advice for British citizens living in Israel. They fear that an attack on Israeli territory could be launched from Iran. And the tension will increase.
