A pro-Palestinian protest is going on in the campus. April 29, on the Columbia University campus in New York
Pro-Palestinian protests have intensified on university campuses across the United States. Hundreds of protesters were arrested. The authorities of New York's Columbia University are expelling the protesting students for not leaving the campus within the stipulated time.
A week or two ago, pro-Palestinian protests started from this university. Later it spread throughout the United States. A protest was held in the university campus by making a tent.
The university authorities had set a deadline of Monday to remove the tent and stop the protest. The university authorities said that action will be taken if the instructions are not followed. However, ignoring the deadline set by the authorities, several students protested on the campus yesterday.
Meanwhile, the police dispersed the protest on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. Several people have been arrested from there. Authorities there say the protesters were told to move their tents. They did not follow the instructions.
In a statement, authorities said rocks "the size of baseballs" were found on campus. Most of the protesters are believed to have no affiliation with the organization.
A lawyer named George Loeb worked with the protesters. He told the local media that the police arrested about 50 people from the Austin campus on Monday. The BBC has contacted the university authorities and the police to find out about this. But none of them responded.
Meanwhile, the elite Ivy League University in New York's Upper Manhattan area has put pressure on Columbia University authorities. The Ivy League university has said that if action is not taken against the protesters, Columbia University authorities will have to resign.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, wrote in an X (former Twitter) message, "What is happening in Colombia is disgraceful." Anti-Semitic teachers and students are taking over the campus. The Republican leader demanded the resignation of Columbia University President Nemat Shafiq.
Last Saturday, one of the universities in the United States, Harvard University, has spread protests. There, students protested with Palestinian flags demanding an end to Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Final exams are scheduled to begin at several campuses in a few weeks. In the face of protests, several campuses including the Humboldt campus of the California State Polytechnic University have been closed. Online classes are going on.
