Putin praises Crimea's 'return' to Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the "return" of Crimea to Russia.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, Putin gave this praise at a rally and concert organized in Red Square in Moscow on Monday.

Putin addresses thousands of people in Red Square a day after his landslide victory in Russia's presidential election.

Russian President said, Crimea is back home. Crimea will go hand in hand with Russia.

Russia's just-concluded presidential election is being condemned by the West as a sham vote.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said the election, which did not allow key opposition candidates to stand, highlighted the depth of repression under Putin's regime.

He said that Russia's election in the occupied Ukrainian territory is a heinous violation of the UN Charter and Ukraine's sovereignty.

Germany calls it the 'make-choice'. The US said the election was clearly not free or fair.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russian President Putin of another rigged election.

Russia seized the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Eight years after the incident, Russia began a full-scale military operation in Ukraine. In this invasion, Russia occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions of Ukraine.

Putin called the "return" of Region Four a major event in Russian history. He described the occupied Ukrainian territories as part of the "new Russia". At this time the crowd responded by chanting 'Russia, Russia'.
