After Germany, the United States is suspicious of Kejriwal's arrest

    Arvind Kejriwal

After Germany, the United States also expressed doubts about the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, convener of India's Aam Aadmi Party (UP) and Delhi Chief Minister. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United States said in this context that they are monitoring the events. The US wants Kejriwal's trial to be completed fairly and quickly. Justice should be transparent.

The news agency Reuters reported this news on Tuesday but did not mention the name of the foreign ministry spokesperson in the report.

Perhaps that is why the Ministry of External Affairs of India did not comment on the report. The Foreign Ministry, however, expressed anger over Germany's comments two days ago.

George Enzweiler, the top diplomat at the German Embassy in India, expressed doubts about Kejriwal's arrest and getting him a fair trial. Being skeptical, he said, they hope that the independence of the judiciary and basic democratic values will be preserved in Kejriwal's trial.

He said, like any accused, Kejriwal deserves an independent and impartial trial. He should get all kinds of legal assistance without any restrictions.

It is clear from this that many questions have arisen in the minds of the United States like Germany about Kejriwal's arrest. Doubts arose. They are also skeptical about whether he will get justice quickly. That doubt is shed through that comment.

India's Ministry of External Affairs promptly summoned the Deputy Chief of the German Embassy to express its displeasure.

India states that interference in the judicial process and prejudicial inferences are unintended and uncalled for. However, they did not say anything about the US comments on Tuesday.

Post-German concern and skepticism of the US over Kejriwal is quite uncomfortable for India's democratic climate and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image. The US, however, did not react to Germany's diplomatic comments on Kejriwal. Did not comment.

The spokesperson of the foreign ministry of that country said in this context, it is better to hear from the German foreign ministry what India has told them about that.

Delhi's political circles are very hot about Kejriwal's arrest. Aam Aadmi Party protested in the capital yesterday Tuesday. They planned to surround the Prime Minister's residence. However, the Delhi Police did not allow them to hold the rally.

The Delhi Pradesh BJP leadership took a counter-programme demanding Kejriwal's resignation. The police did not stop them from marching.

Kejriwal was arrested from his residence by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday. He has been accused of accepting bribes through implementation of excise policy. ED told the court that Kejriwal is the mastermind behind the excise policy. He took a bribe of 100 crore rupees.

A Delhi lower court ordered Kejriwal to be remanded in ED custody till March 28. Kejriwal challenged that order in the Delhi High Court. His hearing is on Wednesday.
