Former CIA officer sentenced to 40 years in prison for leaking secret documents

Former CIA officer Joshua Schulte has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for leaking classified documents related to hacking. This intelligence officer handed over these secret CIA documents to WikiLeaks, a popular platform for leaking secret documents.

Joshua, 35, was also found guilty of possessing images of child abuse.

US counsel accused Joshua of leaking CIA 'Vault 7' system documents. It is a system that allows detectives to hack smartphones and listen to conversations.

It is being called one of the most "adventurous" leaks in US history. The incident happened in 2017. According to the US Department of Justice, Joshua handed over 8,761 classified CIA documents to WikiLeaks. The country has never seen so many secret documents leaked at once.

However, Joshua denied the allegations. However, he has been convicted in three separate federal trials in New York in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Joshua has been imprisoned since 2018.

US Attorney Damian Williams said Joshua committed one of the most brazen and heinous acts of espionage in American history. Through this he has betrayed his country.
