18 killed in US airstrikes in Syria All of them were members of pro-Iranian armed groups. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the information.
Last Sunday, a drone attack was carried out on a US military base in Jordan near the Syrian border. Three US soldiers were killed.
Washington has blamed Iran-backed armed groups for the attack. In response, the United States launched airstrikes targeting armed groups in Iraq and Syria on Friday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP that at least 18 members of Iran-linked organizations were killed in the attack in eastern Syria.
The agency also said at least 26 key installations used by armed groups linked to Iran were destroyed in eastern Syria. It also has weapons depots.
After yesterday's attack, US President Joe Biden said, "We started responding today." The attack will continue at the designated places as per our scheduled time.
The US president claimed that the US does not want conflict in the Middle East or anywhere in the world. However, warning those who want to harm the United States, Biden said, "If any American citizen is harmed, we will respond."
Meanwhile, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kerby said yesterday that the United States does not want a war with Iran. "We are not thinking of going to war with Iran," he told reporters after the US attack on the installations of armed groups linked to Iran in Syria and Iraq.
Karby also said seven separate installations were targeted. These airstrikes took 30 minutes. B-1 bombers flown from the United States also took part in the attack. Karbi mentioned that work is going on to determine how much damage has been done.
He said, however, the United States believes that the operation has been successful. Karbi warned that more such answers will be given in the future.
