'Agreement' to keep US troops in Qatar base for another 10 years

The two countries have agreed to extend the military presence at a US base in Qatar for another 10 years. A related source confirmed the news to Reuters on Tuesday.

The source said on condition of anonymity that the name of the base is Al Udeed Air Base. Its location is in the desert southwest of Doha. This base is the largest of all US military bases in the Middle East.

The Qatar-US deal was first reported on CNN. Reuters tried to know the response of the US Department of Defense in this regard yesterday. However, there was no immediate response.

Qatar has played an important role in mediating talks between the Palestinian independence movement Hamas and Israeli officials over the Gaza war.

Since October 7, US President Joe Biden has been regularly talking to the Emir of Qatar to release people held hostage by Hamas and increase aid for the residents of the valley.

According to Gaza health authorities, more than 22,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks.

Some members of the US Congress criticize Qatar because of the presence of Hamas in Qatar. On October 16, 113 US lawmakers sent a letter to Biden. In it, they wrote, Biden should pressure the countries that support Hamas, including Qatar.
