A tsunami hit the west coast of Japan after yesterday's earthquake. At this time, waves of more than 1 meter or 3.3 feet high hit the coast. Today, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced the lifting of the tsunami warning.

Meanwhile, according to a Reuters report, many people are trapped under the rubble in Japan. Many buildings have collapsed. The fire service in the city of Wajima, in Japan's Ishikawa region, said it had received reports of at least 30 buildings collapsing in the quake.

Many roads in Japan were cracked by the earthquake. Because of this, the rescue workers cannot reach many places. Thousands of people are spending days without electricity in severe winter.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held an emergency meeting with government officials today regarding the disaster. At that time Kishida's speech was broadcast live on television. In his speech, Kishida said, "We have to fight against time with search and rescue operations."
