Blinken condemned the Houthi attack on the ship in a phone conversation with the Saudi foreign minister

Anthony Blinken and Prince Faisal bin Farhan

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke on the phone with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Monday. In this phone conversation, he condemned the attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on commercial ships in the international waters of the Red Sea. The US State Department reported this information yesterday.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels have attacked Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea in protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Several countries have agreed to joint patrols in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to protect commercial ships from Houthi attacks. However, these countries say that they are supporting the Palestinians.

The US State Department released a statement following a phone call between Anthony Blinken and Prince Faisal bin Farhan. It is said that the US Secretary of State has condemned the continued attacks by the Houthis on commercial ships in the international waters of the southern Red Sea. He called for cooperation among all stakeholders to maintain maritime security.

According to a statement from the US State Department, Blinken discussed with Prince Faisal bin Farhan about preventing further escalation of the conflict.

Saudi Arabia was not immediately available for comment on the phone call.

However, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister said earlier this month that the war in Gaza must stop immediately. He complained that the governments of the world do not seem to see ending the conflict as a priority.

The United Nations recently called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. However, the United States and Israel continue to ignore this demand. They say a ceasefire would allow Hamas to regroup.
