In Prague, the police closed the road around the university
Authorities are trying to determine the motive of the gunman in the attack on a university in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. 14 people including the gunman were killed and 25 injured in this terrible attack.
The attack happened last Thursday at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The attacker is a 24-year-old student. The gunman, David Kozak, is believed to have also killed his father in a separate incident.
After the attack on the university, the death toll was said to be 15, but the Ministry of Home Affairs later reduced it to 14. At one stage of the attack, when the police surrounded the assailant, he shot himself. Three foreigners are among the injured.
Interior Minister Vit Rakusna said that the gun attack had nothing to do with "international terrorism". The student did this alone.
The police said there is no risk of any new attacks in the near future. However, security has been beefed up in certain establishments including various educational institutions as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the police are being criticized for not taking immediate action after receiving the news of the attack. However, defending themselves, the police said that they have tried their best to control the situation and keep the number of casualties low.
