Protests in the United States: Police broke 9 ribs and hands of professor

Before being arrested by the police, the protesting students created a bond among themselves.

During pro-Palestinian protests in the United States, a professor was arrested and his 9 ribs and an arm were broken by police. The victim teacher said this in a statement.

The incident took place on the Washington University campus in St. Louis, Missouri. The victim teacher, Steve Tamari, is a professor of history at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is an expert on the Middle East.

A video captured in the incident shows Steve Tamari apparently trying to photograph or videotape protesters on the University of Washington campus last Saturday. At that time, some policemen recklessly arrested him and took him away.

The video also shows a member of the police kneeling Professor Tamari as he falls to the ground while being arrested. Later, both hands were handcuffed. Some policemen then dragged his limp body to a van and threw him on the ground.

When Professor Tamari fell to the ground during the arrest, a member of the police continued to hit him with his knee. Later, both hands were handcuffed. Some policemen then dragged his limp body to a van and threw him on the ground.

During the protest, the wife of this professor, Sandra Tamari, was also arrested by the police. Sandra gave a post about this incident on social media X after noon yesterday. Steve writes that Tamari has been released from the hospital. But he is in pain and needs surgery on his broken hand. Sandra also wrote in the post that they were not interviewing any media at the time of the incident.

The academic publication 'The Middle East Research and Information Project' issued a statement in this incident. It said the leaders and workers of MERIP were horrified and outraged by the attack on Professor Tamari and his arrest. Both Professor Tamari and his wife previously worked for the publication.

"Police violence against peaceful protests on university campuses has been a worrying trend for two weeks," MERIP said. But what was done to Steve was extreme violence; It has even exceeded this standard.

"We condemn the brutality of the police and the militarization of campuses by the university authorities," MERIP said.
