Israeli bombing in Rafah amid ceasefire talks, 12 dead

Today Tuesday marks seven months of the Israeli attack on Gaza

Israel bombarded the southern city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip overnight. This information was informed in the report of news agency AFP today.

On the other hand, according to Al-Jazeera's report, at least 12 people have been killed in this attack by Israel in Rafah.

According to AFP news, negotiations are underway in Cairo, Egypt, on the cease-fire agreement in Gaza. Israel bombed Rafah before today's talks. Israel is trying to increase the pressure on the Palestinian independence organization Hamas before the talks.

Hamas has already backed a ceasefire proposal. This information was given in a statement issued by Hamas on Monday. According to the statement, Hamas has informed Qatar and Egypt, the two mediator countries, that they have approved a proposal for a cease-fire agreement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the proposal still fell far short of Israel's essential demands. However, they will send negotiators to Cairo for talks.

Israel has also said that they are continuing the operation in Rafah to increase military pressure on Hamas in order to advance the achievement of other objectives of the war, including the release of hostages.

The United States, a close ally of Israel, said it was reviewing Hamas's response to the ceasefire agreement.

Israel has been threatening a ground operation in Rafah for weeks. Israel ordered civilians to evacuate part of the city yesterday ahead of the possible operation.

An AFP correspondent stationed there reported heavy Israeli bombardment of the city overnight.

Today marks seven months since the Israeli attack on Gaza. Millions of refugees took refuge in Rafah during this attack. There are many refugee camps across the Rafah.
