Donald Trump and Nikki Haley
Confirmation of the nomination from the Republican Party depends on the results of the primaries held next Tuesday. On this day, 16 states will have primary selection. The day has been dubbed 'Super Tuesday' in the US election process as elections will be held in multiple states.
On March 5, 16 states, including California, Alabama, Alaska, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Massachusetts, will hold the Republican primaries.
"Super Tuesday" is crucial in the race for the White House in November's election. Among these 16 states, North Carolina is known as a 'swing state'.
Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election by a margin of only 1.3 percent or 75 thousand votes from this state. Among the states he won, this state had the narrowest margin.
Trump is far ahead of challenger Nikki Haley in the North Carolina primary. But Nikki Haley's performance should also be looked at here, so that Trump can focus on her weaknesses.
Thom Little, professor of political science at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, said that Trump should focus on moderate and neutral voters.
Under the state's election rules, unaffiliated voters can vote for the Republican candidate in the primary. These voters are Nikki Haley's strength. Nikki showed it by getting about 40 percent of the vote in New Hampshire and South Carolina.
After the initial loss in South Carolina, Nicky declared that he would continue to fight. Trump's campaign is expected to confirm the nomination by March 12.
Tom Little said, "Those who will vote for Nikki, whether they will vote for Trump next November, or stay at home, or switch parties and support Biden, the decision is very important."
These voters are being targeted by the Biden and Trump campaigns. These swing voters are now more important to them than registered Democrats or Republicans. Because, the number of these voters is more in southern states.
According to Little, both camps—Republicans and Democrats—will spend more time and money in the state.
Barack Obama last won the state in 2008 as a Democrat. Preliminary polls show that Trump is ahead of Biden in North Carolina.
