Hunger is being used as a weapon of war in Gaza: EU

European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell

European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell said hunger is being used as a weapon of war in the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

Borrell said this in a speech given to the United Nations Security Council in New York on Tuesday.

The EU's foreign policy chief has described the lack of aid to besieged Gaza as a "man-made" disaster.

A Spanish ship has already left Cyprus with much-needed food for Gazans.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced the strengthening of operations in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The fastest way to send aid to the people of Gaza is by land. But Israeli security forces have imposed restrictions on aid entering Gaza by land. So we had to take the initiative to send relief in an alternative way.

Already, many countries, including the United States, Jordan, have dropped aid to Gaza from airplanes. Relief is now being sent there by sea.

In a speech to the UN Security Council, Joseph Borrell said the lack of effective land routes has led to a humanitarian crisis in the region.

Borrell said humanitarian aid is urgently needed in Gaza. The European Union is working as much as possible for this.
