Peter Haas meeting with World Bank and IMF officials on the country's economy

US Ambassador Peter Haas held a meeting with the top officials of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dhaka office. Peter Haas organized a lunch meeting at his home in Gulshan, Dhaka today on Wednesday afternoon. In the meeting, the current economic situation of Bangladesh, growth in gross domestic product (GDP), business and investment situation were discussed with the officials of World Bank and IMF. This information is known by responsible sources.
 

World Bank Bangladesh Country Director Abdullahi Sek, Deputy Country Director Soleiman Soulibali and Senior Economist Bernard Haven and IMF Dhaka Office Head Jayendu Dey participated in the meeting.

When asked about the meeting, World Bank Country Director Abdullahi Seke said, "Today, World Bank and IMF representatives met with US Ambassador Peter Hass as part of regular communication with our stakeholders, including World Bank shareholders." I attended the meeting at the invitation of Peter Hass. We discussed the development priorities of Bangladesh. The World Bank is committed to supporting Bangladesh for sustainable and inclusive growth and development. 

According to responsible sources, this is a regular meeting. There have been such meetings before. Two weeks ago, US Ambassador Peter Hass invited representatives of Dhaka office of World Bank and IMF to this lunch. The current situation of Bangladesh economy and trade was discussed in the meeting.

The US Ambassador met with officials from the World Bank and the IMF, two of Bangladesh's biggest development partners, at a time when the political situation is heating up around national elections. Programs like hortal-blockade are going on, which are affecting the economy.

It is known that at present, a total of 55 projects are being implemented in the country with the financing of the World Bank. The multinational organization is giving 1 thousand 569 million dollars in these projects. On the other hand, IMF is lending 4.7 billion dollars to Bangladesh. Already the first installment has been discounted as much as 470 million dollars. The next installment may be discounted next month.
